Aga Khan University

The Aga Khan University and its hospital in Karachi are central in much of Pakistan’s medical research. Important ventures into progression of the nation’s healthcare have oft been initiated by the scholars at Aga Khan University, and it’s important to recognise the central role learning plays in the betterment of society as a whole.

With generous donations from Bashir and Mariyam Dawood, the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has pushed its medical program to new heights. The addition of integrated operating rooms, advanced neurological equipment and a new refractive laser suite have propelled AKUH into the future of medical learning.

The Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME)

Located at the Aga Khan University, CIME is a world-class learning destination for future healthcare professionals.

Thanks to funding from Bashir and Mariyam Dawood, CIME has received a state-of-the-art suite of medical educational tech. Using simulated real-life scenarios with virtual reality technology, this facility allows students to learn medical skills in risk-free situations.

CIME comprises of three buildings: The Ibn Sina Building, the Shiraz Boghani Building and the Mariyam Bashir Dawood Building. The donor-funded centre contains teaching spaces, hi-fi simulators and specialist medical learning environments. These include telemedicine clinics, a cardiac catheterisation lab and a phantom-head dental lab.

These sophisticated facilities are supplemented by leading-edge communications technology. This enables international experts to join classrooms from anywhere worldwide, adding even more value to an education with AKUH.

The Mariyam Bashir Dawood Building

Mariyam Dawood is incredibly honoured to have one of three buildings at CIME bear her name. This was dedicated to her after pledging her notable philanthropic support to the project, along with her husband Bashir.

For decades, the Dawood family has endorsed several charities in Pakistan and around the world. Facilitating the creation of sustainable, global healthcare solutions is an endeavour they proudly support.
